WORKSHOP CONTENT

Come and join one of our “Happy Families” as we find out what life was like in a small English village in June 1914. At the height of the British Empire, England had never had it so good. Trade with other countries was developing bringing new and exciting goods to our shore. So what would the assassination of an Archduke in a far away country have to do with them? Not much surely? The villagers enjoy an idyllic Bank Holiday when they all had time to relax and enjoy each others company, little knowing that the next day, August 4th 1914 was going to bring devastating news of war. We explore what happens when the men of the village (and some of the young boys) join the village Pals regiment and march off to fight for King and Country. What will our women and children do now? Step up to the mark, of course!
